Help Hailee Fight Aggressive Breast Cancer

Hi, I’m Tamara, Hailee’s mom – and I never thought I’d be writing one of these. But here we are.

Hailee is 32. She’s healthy, active, kind, and full of life. She recently moved across the country for a fresh start, excited for a new chapter. Then on June 4th, she found a lump in her breast.

She went to the ER right away. Tried to get a mammogram on June 10th but was turned away. She saw a doctor on June 14th, had a mammogram and ultrasound on June 24th, and was rushed into a STAT biopsy.

We got the results the morning of June 26th: Triple Negative Invasive Breast Cancer — one of the most aggressive and fast-moving types. The treatment plan is urgent and clear: chemo immediately to shrink the tumor, an MRI immediately, and then surgery to remove the breast as soon as possible.

At the time, she didn’t have insurance, and we were devastated. We applied for Marketplace coverage and Medicaid, but because of the timing and technicalities, it felt like every door was closed. We explored every path, made every call, and hoped for a breakthrough.

Thankfully, through the help of a few fierce advocates, we were finally able to secure insurance. But it didn’t go into effect until July 1st. That meant weeks of limbo and thousands in out-of-pocket expenses before coverage began. And even now, there are many critical things it doesn’t cover, appointments, imaging, out-of-network specialists, and other necessary treatments.

So, I’m asking for help. Every dollar raised will go directly to Hailee’s care; chemo, imaging, surgery, prescriptions, and ongoing treatment. Every share, every kind word, every donation matters more than you can imagine.

If you’re a parent, you know this kind of fear. If you’ve ever loved someone deeply, you know this pain.

P.S. I want to be transparent (because we feel terribly uncomfortable doing this whole campaign to begin with), the original goal was set at $250K to give us a chance of getting through the full course of treatment without drowning, especially since Hailee won’t be able to work during chemo or recovery. I’ll be by her side, so my income will drop too. GoFundMe automatically adjusts the visible goal as milestones are hit, which can make it look like the amount is changing. It’s not us, it’s apparently how the platform works. I’m humbled to even be asking, but truly, every bit helps more than you know.
