I have set up this GoFundMe page for my sister, Haejean Ahn Cappiello, in order to help raise funds to support her as she navigates a scary, new cancer diagnosis. On November 11, 2025, after a stressful twelve days in the hospital with multiple doctors working to figure out the cause of her unusual symptoms, Haejean was diagnosed with EBV+ aggressive NK T-cell lymphoma/leukemia, a rare blood cancer. She will be receiving chemotherapy with the ultimate goal of a bone marrow transplant.

Haejean is absolutely beloved. From the moment she was admitted, her hospital room held a steady stream of visitors—everyone from coworkers, to childhood friends, to owners of pets she sits for. If you’re not friends with her, it most likely means you haven’t met her. She keeps friends old and new, near and far, and holds them for life. Her hospital room was full of joy and laughter, in addition to tears. Nurses commented on how much they appreciated her smile and positive attitude. I felt an unmistakable sense of determination in the doctor’s voices and attitudes that she must be cured—that this is what they were committing to.

For the past several years, she has worked tirelessly at her job at a veterinary clinic, as well as picking up extra petsitting jobs on the side to make ends meet. While she undergoes months of treatment, she will be unable to work. It is her turn to be taken care of. Let's rally around her and offer our support as she walks down this challenging road of uncertainty. She has already shown incredible strength and mental fortitude, bolstered by the love and support of her community, and is committed to her healing and recovery. If anyone can beat this, she can.
