Hello, my name is Hadeel, and I'm a 27-year-old general doctor working in Gaza. I'm reaching out to you with a heartfelt plea for assistance on my journey to become a specialist doctor amidst the chaos and devastation that Gaza is currently facing. My dream is to continue my educational journey, which was supposed to begin last December when I was accepted into the Egyptian Fellowship Program to start my training as a resident in the Internal Medicine department. Unfortunately, due to the current situation in Gaza, my plans were delayed, and now I need to travel as soon as possible because this step is crucial for me to achieve my dream. However, I'm facing a significant challenge when it comes to the costs of traveling.
Passing through the Egyptian checkpoint at the Rafah border requires a substantial sum of money, ranging from $5000 to $6000, which is simply beyond my reach.
I graduated from Cairo University in 2021, and for the past two years, I have dedicated myself to working in hospitals and clinics amidst the turmoil in Gaza, striving to save lives and provide much-needed care during these challenging times. The ongoing conflict has had a devastating impact on the healthcare system in Gaza, with many hospitals and clinics being targeted. The scars left by these attacks are deep, and yet, amidst the ruins and destruction, the demand for skilled medical professionals has never been greater.
Both of my parents, who are retired teachers, have instilled in me the value of education and service. However, their pensions are modest, and with my low salary, we can barely meet our daily needs. The financial burden of my fellowship journey is one that we cannot bear alone.
