My name is Karen Nowak. I am fundraising to help cover the cost of care for my Hackney Horse stallion Merlin (Shady Maple Northern Diplomat). He had a bad episode of choke and unfortunately aspirated. He is currently in Cornell University Equine Hospital in critical condition with severe aspiration pneumonia, bilateral pleural effusion and sepsis. It will be a long course of treatment for Merlin. Estimate 2 weeks in Cornell then treatment at home with antibiotics for 3 months.

I found Merlin as a young stallion with the Amish. Once purchased, I put him in the hands of the incredible Sarah Casey, who brought him along carefully & sensitively from a barely broke to ride horse to FEI level. They have a very special partnership!

Why is it impossible to contribute? The Hackney HORSE (not pony) is a critically endangered breed. There are less than 250 left in all of North America and less than 2500 worldwide! The loss of any breeding animal is serious, in particular one with some of the old famous horses within 3 generations in his pedigree.

Please help us save his life! No amount is too small.
