On March 24th, a devastating fire tore through Habibi’s Mediterranean Foods - forcing Sofia and Abe, and their business partner, Jeff, to shut down operations overnight.
For over 16 years, they’ve poured their hearts into creating fresh, authentic, and nourishing food that has become a staple in homes and stores across Canada.
This fire wasn’t their fault - but it’s left them facing unimaginable challenges. While insurance will eventually help with some things, the process has been painfully slow, and it doesn’t come close to covering the full cost of recovery. I've tried to start this Go Fund Me for them for months, but they insisted on giving it a go themselves first. They did it until now, but there's only so much they can do on their own and it's not enough to relaunch - so here I am - asking all of you for help.
Their new space comes with higher rent, unexpected expenses, and the countless hurdles that come with rebuilding from the ground up.
I know this pain all too well. When I lost my own business, Feed Me Fit, to a fire, I thought it was the end. But it wasn’t. The way my community showed up for me - with love, generosity, and belief - changed everything. It gave me the strength to rebuild, to start Mindful FÜD, and to keep going when it felt impossible. That support didn’t just help me reopen my doors - it reminded me that I wasn’t alone.
Now it’s my turn to pass that same love forward.
They have dedicated their lives to creating something beautiful - a brand that celebrates culture, community, and connection through food. Habibi’s isn’t just a business; it’s family.
They’ve weathered so much already - economic downturns, supply shortages, a product recall just two weeks before the fire - and still, they’ve chosen resilience.
They’ve found a new facility and are working tirelessly to relaunch by the end of November. But to make that happen, they need us.
Funds raised will go directly toward:
Securing and outfitting the new production space
Equipment replacement not covered by insurance
Ingredient and packaging restocks
Payroll support during the transition
Marketing and relaunch expenses to help them get back on shelves
Let’s come together, the way so many did for me.
Every dollar, every share, every bit of encouragement matters.
Let’s bring Habibi’s back. Because community isn’t just about the food we share - it’s about showing up for one another when it matters most.
With gratitude and love,
