Haakon joined the Ford family at the start of April. Despite the challenges of starting a new job virtually during a pandemic, Haakon quickly became a valuable member of the D-Ford team in Palo Alto. In July, he and his wife Eva bought their first home in California. For those outside of California, buying a home here is a big deal and usually requires many years of saving and shopping around. New job, new house—exciting things were happening!
Shortly after moving into their new home, first responders were knocking at their door and informing them that they would need to evacuate their home due to the CZU Lightening Complex Fire. The wildfire burned 86,000 acres in the Santa Cruz mountains. Luckily, after many days battling the fire, firefighters managed to save their neighborhood and Haakon and Eva's home was not destroyed. However, the containment line was basically their driveway (see photo evidence), and their home sustained significant heat and smoke damage. Due to the damage, Haakon and Eva will be required to stay in temporary housing until at least early 2021 while necessary repairs are made to their home. Many of their possessions were damaged as well; Eva has been a fashion designer for many years, and nearly all of her work and inventory of clothes was destroyed by the smoke.
This GoFundMe has been organized by colleagues to help support Haakon and Eva as they navigate this unexpected situation and work to get back into their new home. Contributions of any amount are greatly appreciated!
