Gwendolyn Wilchie-Jenkins has been battling kidney disease since her diagnosis of kidney failure nearly 20 years ago. Throughout this time, she has managed to take care of her family, including her three children, work when able, remain active in her community and church, and all with faith and a positive attitude. She is known for extending a helping hand to others, and now she is in dire need of help herself.
In January 2021, Gwendolyn experienced a setback. Her kidney failure had advanced to stage 5 as both of her kidneys had now failed. Her doctor immediately put her on dialysis three times per week, and she could no longer work. She is now on the kidney transplant list in California, with an expected waiting time frame of eight to ten years. In addition, she has exhausted her disability benefits.
Now for the good news. Gwendolyn's physician referred her to the state of Nebraska to be placed on their transplant list. Time is of the essence for her survival, and Nebraska has a shorter wait time of two years. In addition, Nebraska will count the time that she has already been on the list. This means that her prayers of receiving a kidney can happen in less than a year!
Now for the even better news! Gwendolyn received a call from Nebraska informing her that they were ready to proceed and scheduled a time to begin her kidney transplant journey next month. The initial consultation will require a three-day stay, along with airfare, car rental, and other travel necessities for her and her husband. There will also be additional scheduled appointments in Nebraska leading up to the transplant. Lastly, Gwendolyn will be required to stay in Nebraska for three months for aftercare services once she receives her new kidney while still covering her living expenses in California.
Can you help? Your prayers and financial support of any amount will be greatly appreciated to assist Gwendolyn in covering the medical expenses for her kidney transplant. Please consider making a donation if you are able. Thank you in advance for your kindness.
