Gwen & Gideon here, asking our community for some support after both of us were hit with some significant medical bills totaling over $8000 and they aren’t done with us yet.
My personal medical bills between my ER visit, PT, emotional & cognitive therapy, dental care (the impact of the assault led to my recent dental work becoming infected) & chiropractic care has come in at $4000 & these costs are still accumulating as my insurance has a $10,000 deductible. Additionally, I am self-employed & the concussion I received from the Burlington Police Officer Gonzalez has led me to miss weeks of work & I am still operating at a limited capacity. The city of Burlington still has not provided compensation for these medical expenses & my many hours of missed / low-capacity work.
Gideon’s story is a long and sad one but we hope he is headed to a bright future. He came to stay with Nick & I on an emergency basis as the hotel where he had been living informed his owner that he was no longer welcome. I went to meet him at 10 PM & picked him up the next morning. He was so relieved to be somewhere quiet & safe that he spent the next few days sleeping. When he was rejuvenated, we learned a lot more about him. Due to no fault of his own, he had muzzle trauma, male-dog reactivity due to never being fixed & severe stranger danger. All of this in addition to a fast-growing cancerous mass on his front leg. The lovely Dr Thygesen at Qi neutered him, Dr Mat at Sugar Maple performed the tricky, and pricey, mass-removal surgery. Gideon’s has now been with us for over five months & his care has come to $3595 not including his medications & dietary needs.
It is really tough for us to ask for help but so many kind folks have offered to contribute so this is how I am going about setting that up for those who are interested & able to donate towards theses unanticipated expenses. \

Gideon gets his wrap off tomorrow & then this sweet boy will be ready for adoption!! Gideon needs a safe place to call his forever home. While we have fallen in love with this boy, city life without a private yard is too stressful for him as he has leash reactivity towards other dogs with a side of stranger danger! He would do well anywhere that has a fenced yard! He is a sweet fella who loves his stuffies, cuddling with his humans and kitties & can even spend time with non-dominant female pups provided a slow-intro is facilitated! He has had some real tough experiences in life making him a bit skeptical of strangers but he is highly motivated by treats and snuggles and is always quick to warm up to our guests! Please consider opening your home to this fella so he has a loving space to spend the rest of his days chewing stuffies & snuggling with his people!
