Help Gustavo get his freezer truck
Donation protected
This is Gustavo Dias with his young son. He lives in Mozambique and has bought a freezer truck from Japan to help sell fish which he buys on the coast and then trucks inland to small towns.
The problem is that he borrowed money from his brother to buy the truck, but now has to pay huge import duties which he cannot afford.
This is the truck
Up until now he has used his car and ice in a cooler, which has meant that the fish often do not last the distance.
Gustavo's dream is to earn enough money from his fish business to build a primary school in a rural district in the north-west of Mozambique.
I met Gustavo when I visited Mozambique in 2017 with my sister and my two kids. We went to a beautiful resort called Guludo (https://guludo.mystrikingly.com/) which was blown to smithereens during Cyclone Kenneth in 2019.
Gustavo was then the Director of a charity called Nema which was funded by the resort. He had been the administrator of a school before and was a very successful director of Nema.
We talked to Gustavo many times during our stay at Guludo (my sister speaks fluent Portuguese and lived in Mozambique for 18 years) and were impressed with his idealism and sincerity.
Gustavo recently contacted me to ask for my help to pay the import duties. He is desperate as he cannot get a bank loan. He needs $3000 US dollars. This is equal to $4000 AUD.
I will contribute $200, but any amount from kind strangers will do. From little things, big things grow!
As Mozambique is not one of the countries covered by GoFundMe, I will channel donations to my sister who has a bank account in Mozambique and can transfer the money to Gustavo.
If anyone would like to contact Gustavo directly, let me know and I will give you his WhatsApp number.
