Originally born in Honduras, Gustavo had a rough life, struggling daily in order to help his grandparents survive while his family lived thousands of miles away in the US. Finally making enough money, Gustavo was able to come to the US in order to escape poverty, starvation, and most of all, gang violence.
Since he has been here, he has impacted the lives of many people in positive ways. Similar to his life in Honduras, Gustavo has dedicated everything he does to those around him, never thinking about himself. He is one of the most humble kids you will ever meet, and he has never asked for a handout ever in his life, although he comes from nothing. Gustavo has saved money and worked tirelessly in hard labor(sometimes 18 hour days) in order to attain proper documentation to become an American citizen. However last week, Gustavo was pulled over by Florida state police for speeding. Sadly, Gustavo did not possess proper documentation. With no past criminal history, he was immediately arrested and sent to the local county jail with his car being impounded for which he worked hard for. Several days later ICE took him into custody and transported him to their detention facility in Tallahassee.
Gustavo and his family are not able to pay the court costs and attorney fees to prevent him from being deported back to Honduras, back to poverty, back to the struggle, back to the gang violence. Gustavo works hard everyday roofing or throwing concrete, and gives the vast majority of his money back to his family for their necessities. He is in a dire situation as he is so very close to being deported and not becoming a US legal citizen. He recently called from the jail with the little time provided and asked for any sort of help from family and friends. He rarely ever asks for help, so at that point in time, I felt compelled to do anything to help my closest friend and this is why I created the GoFundMe. All he wants is to be an American citizen, to have freedoms, and to live a safe life. For his whole life he has helped others when they were in desperate times, now Gustavo is in an extremely dark time of his own. PLEASE, help us raise enough money so that Gustavo can be released from the ICE detention center, can become an American citizen, and truly live a carefree life in the greatest country in the world.
