My cat Augustus (Gus) has been my companion for the past two and a half years, and as he approaches his third birthday, he continues to bring so much joy and laughter into my life. Gus is a true ham—he loves people and always finds a way to make me smile, even on the toughest days. I never imagined I’d be in a position where I’d need to ask for help, but recent events have left me overwhelmed and in need of support.

Recently, Gus was diagnosed with feline lower urinary tract disease (FLUTD), and it was discovered that he had crystals in his bladder causing him significant discomfort. About two weeks after his diagnosis, I had to rush him to the emergency vet because he was completely blocked and unable to pee. The emergency vets acted quickly, placing a catheter to relieve him, and he spent two nights at the emergency clinic. Unfortunately, within six hours of coming home, Gus began showing signs of being blocked again. I rushed him back to the emergency vet, where it was confirmed he was blocked once more. The vets determined that the best course of action was to perform a surgery called Perineal Urethrostomy, which is done on male cats with chronic, life-threatening urinary obstructions to prevent future blockages.

The costs of Gus’s emergency vet visits, surgery, medications, and ongoing care—including special urinary tract food—have added up quickly. I’m not someone who normally asks for help, but this experience has come as quite a shock and at great expense.
