My name is Kristin, and I'm a surgical veterinary assistant at Sirius Orthopedic Veterinary Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.

I feel very conflicted about sharing this right now, but I have to put my fears and uncertainty aside for Gus. One of the hardest lessons life continues to teach is there's strength, growth, and perseverance in our vulnerability.

Today, I was given a reality I've feared. The same fear Gus has had in his eyes that I've met with hope, love, and encouragement that there is a light at the end of this tunnel.

The reality is Gus needs an expensive spinal surgery at Kansas State University in order to heal, or we will have to make the most humane decision to end his suffering and help him cross the rainbow bridge.

I'm still in shock and honestly am overall hoping to make this surgery possible. Thank you all so much for everything, I will keep you all updated. Cost of surgery and hospital stay was quoted $5,500-6,500.

Update** thank you all for being patient with me as I am beyond exhausted and have never done anything like this before.
