Hi, my name is Kuldeep Singh Mehami from Village Talwan, Punjab, India. I am an old friend of Gurpreet and we grew up in the same village in Punjab and I am setting up this fundraising campaign to help Gurpreet Singh Dosanjh (A Refugee in Canada) to help with his treatment. Gurpreet is diagnosed with End-Stage Renal Disease and is permanently heading back to India on the 4th Dec 2021 and will need to get treated as early as possible.
Mr Dosanjh is a 34-year-old Indian national who came as a refugee in Canada a couple of years ago to seek a better life for his family left behind. He has an old mother, a caring wife and two loving kids back in Punjab, India. Little did he know, that he would have to see a day where his entire life would come to a standstill because of an illness. The last two years were already very difficult for everyone especially for Gurpreet since he had to feed his entire family back home because of the situation with Covid in his town in India. He was quite young when he lost his father due to an illness and ever since he had been the sole breadwinner for his family. Back in India, he made his livelihood out of farming and here in Canada he was a Construction worker.
You may have heard that Gurpreet was diagnosed with End-Stage Renal Disease just recently and his condition is progressing day after day. He has been followed at Multi-Care Kidney Clinic at the Brampton Civic Hospital. Now the doctors here in Canada have given him two choices, either he has to stay on dialysis or find a kidney donor. The problem with the latter is, the waitlist for a kidney transplant is very long. Also, since he is a refugee in Canada, he is not covered for such treatments under Federal plans. Finally, with the mutual decision of family, friends and relatives, Mr Dosanjh concluded that it was in his best interest to go back to India permanently and be with his family and kids.
We all love Gurpreet aka Gopi because through all this he still has a fierce spirit and has a strong will to live a normal life. The prognosis, of his condition, also suggests that he goes back to India and finds a suitable treatment. The average cost of a Kidney Transplant in India is between 8 to 10 Lakh INR, which is about 15000 dollars and then the continued medications will cost extra. Hence, we have decided to contribute a sum of 20 thousand dollars towards helping Gurpreet out.
I would like to request anyone reading this to take a few moments to think about the situation Gurpreet is in right now and how it has affected his whole life. I for one, wouldn't want to see a friend or family member suffer so much. Finally, I plea to the kind and caring hearted souls in our community to come forward and help Gurpreet in his time of need. Show your support in whichever way suits YOU!
I would like to tell all the humble donors that the funds collected will be used entirely towards Gurpreet's treatment and well being. The funds that have been collected will be withdrawn to my account and I will take the full responsibility of transferring all the amount collected to Gurpreet's Indian bank account upon his arrival in India. Upon his arrival, Gurpreet's family will check all the available options at different hospitals in Ludhiana and Chandigarh. Most likely the treatment will be done at Ludhiana DMC or any equivalent health care facility.
