Hi our name is Sofia and Tomas.
We are the proud dogparents to Gunnar. Gunnar is an 8 year old Dobermann.
This last few days has been an emotional rollercoaster. Friday the 13 of September Gunnar got a really bad diarrhea and we had to take him to the emergency.
His stomach is better, but since he had a persistent sore on his lower jaw, we asked them to take a biopsy. After that, the bleeding won’t stop. A CT scan / X-ray / ultrasound has been done, and many blood tests have been submitted. On Tuesday, September 17, he was able to come home for a few days.
Friday, September 19, there was a follow-up appointment.
He had anemia annd needed to stay at the hospital for blood. We left hin there 3pm and they gave us a call at 10pm, they didn't hade his bloodtype. Had to rusch there (40min) drive and move him to a different hospital. He was by now in bad condition, low pulse and heavily breathing. Was home 2 am. Got a text 3.30 am that he did get blood and is allready better.
We have a appointmet with the oncologist at monday 23/9 and then he can get treatment. Treatment is around $6000, not even counting the meeting with the oncologist. From his insurance of $14000 there is less than $3000 left after this weekend there wont be much left for acctual treatment.
Gunnar has been diagnosed with some type of cancer, most likely multiple myeloma – a rare bone marrow cancer.
With medication, the disease can be managed, and he can live longer. Gunnar is an incredibly kind and steady dog, and we love him dearly. We have him insured for veterinary care at the highest possible amount, but with high deductible costs it is still high costs to cover and the insurance wont last much longer as the costs are to high. We need to cover his treatment somehow. It might give him a year or less but can give hom longer time as well.
