Help Guillermo fight the battle against cancer!

Hi Everyone,

From the bottom of our hearts, we want to thank everyone who prayed, donated and shared. It means a lot to him and his family. We apologize for the delay in update but a lot has been going on, his surgeries were both a success, they were able to remove the entire tumor and the he will continue with radiation and physical therapy since his left leg was slightly affected. His path to recovery is long but each and everyone one of you has helped lighten the financial burden and we appreciate it so very much. Please keep praying for him for continued strength during this journey. Thank you!

Las dos cirugias fueron un éxito y pudieron remover el tumor en su totalidad, ahora sigue la radioterapia y terapias intensivas. Thank you so much to everyone that has donated, and have kept Guillermo in their prayers. You don’t know how much it means to their family and how much it will help them right now.

A quick update: Guillermo will need two surgeries. He had the first surgery Thursday morning and it went well, thank God, and is progressing accordingly but is in a lot of pain.

He will undergo major surgery this coming Monday where they will place a prosthetic piece to keep his hips connected to his pelvic bone in place, remove the mass, and then biopsy it to see what they are really dealing with. We were hoping that the surgeries we’re going to remove the cancer completely, but it seems that it may not be that way after speaking to the specialist since it is very aggressive, and they are not making any guarantees on total removal. At this point in time they are just trying to take out as much as possible so that he can then get radiation therapy. We ask for prayers as the tougher moments are coming. Also, shares and donations would be appreciated.

Una actualización rápida: Guillermo necesitará dos cirugías. Tuvo la primera cirugía el jueves por la mañana y salió bien, gracias a Dios, y está progresando en consecuencia, pero tiene mucho dolor. Se someterá a una cirugía mayor el próximo lunes donde le colocarán una pieza protésica para mantener sus caderas conectadas al hueso pélvico en su lugar, y extraerán el tumor. Le harán biopsia para ver con qué están lidiando realmente. Esperábamos que con las cirugías iban a extirpar el cáncer por completo, pero parece que puede que no sea así después de hablar con el especialista, ya que es muy agresivo y no dan ninguna garantía de extirpación total. En este momento solo están tratando de extraer la mayor cantidad posible para que luego pueda recibir radioterapia. Pedimos oraciones mientras se avecinan los momentos más difíciles. First and for most we want to thank everyone for spreading the word and coming together to a help a loved one to some, a friend to others, and a possible stranger to most! We have created this account to seek economic help and most importantly gather prayers for a family member who was recently diagnosed with cancer. Our wonderful family member Guillermo Giraldo was recently and unexpectedly diagnosed with a Chondrosarcoma in the lower part of the sacral bone, which is a very aggressive cancer. After experiencing discomfort for the past few years leading to horrible pain that kept getting dismissed or misdiagnosed, he landed in the hospital multiple times due to failure of relieving/emptying in his bladder and his bowls. After yet another hospital visit due to unbearable pain in his bladder, one God-sent doctor decided that his pain needed to be taken seriously and ordered a pelvic CT with contrast which concluded that his pain was stemming from a very large tumor located on his Coccyx therefore all the nerves that control all the sphincters were being compromised.

He was moved as an emergency transfer to Emory midtown in order to get the best neurological surgeons input on how to proceed moving forward, and after gathering a group of specialists due to the complexity of his surgery, they determined that being a rare type of Chondrosarcoma, the sacral bone must be removed. This means that when the bone is removed so will be all the nerves that control his sphincters:bladder/bowel. This will also damage to the movement of his feet in specific directions-positions causing him to having to relearn to walk. The positive side is that the tumor is treatable and is encapsulated, it has not metastasized, according to all the analysis carried out. At this moment he awaits for a surgery date, in order to begin his recovery process .

Throughout this process his wife, Margarita, has had to continue working long shifts and then heading to the hospital at night to be with him, his 16 year old daughter has also been going back and forth between home, school and the hospital to be with him. Needless to say, the bills have been adding up quickly and the hardest part is yet to come, they live on a third floor and will have to get relocated to a first floor so they are looking at major expenses coming up soon and margarita alone will be the provider until he can recover. Our faith remains intact and with the help of all of you it will allow the Giraldo’s to deal with this lengthy process with more peace of mind. Ultimately, they trust that God will be with them and he will not give up because all of his victories will be in His name.

Antes que nada queremos agradecerles por tomarse un momento de su día para unirnos en oración y para estar presentes para un ser muy especial, Guillermo Giraldo.

Hemos creado esta cuenta para buscar ayuda económica y lo más importante juntar oraciones por un familiar a quien recientemente le diagnosticaron cáncer. A Guillermo Giraldo le diagnosticaron inesperadamente un condrosarcoma en la parte inferior del hueso sacro, y es un cáncer muy agresivo. Después de experimentar molestias durante los últimos años que le provocaron un dolor insoportable el cual fue descartado o diagnosticado erróneamente, el estuvo en el hospital varias veces debido a que no lograba aliviar/vaciar su vejiga y dar del cuerpo. Después de otra visita al hospital debido a un dolor insoportable en su vejiga, un médico puesto en el camino por Dios decidió que su dolor debía tomarse en serio, y ordenó una tomografía computarizada pélvica con contraste que concluyó que su dolor se debía a un tumor muy grande ubicado en su coxis. Por lo tanto todos los nervios que controlan todos los esfínteres estaban siendo comprometidos.

Fue trasladado como un paciente de emergencia al centro de Emory para obtener el aporte de los mejores cirujanos neurológicos ya que tenían que determinar sobre cómo proceder en el futuro, y luego de reunir a un grupo de especialistas debido a la complejidad de su cirugía, determinaron que al ser un tipo raro de condrosarcoma , se debe extirpar el hueso sacro. Esto significa que cuando se extraiga el hueso también se eliminarán todos los nervios que controlan sus esfínteres: vejiga/intestino. Esto también dañará el movimiento de sus pies en direcciones y posiciones específicas, lo que le hará tener que volver a aprender a caminar. El lado positivo es que el tumor es tratable y está encapsulado, no ha metastatizado, según todos los análisis realizados. En este momento se encuentra a la espera de una fecha de cirugía, para poder iniciar su proceso de recuperación.

Durante todo este proceso su esposa Margarita ha tenido que seguir trabajando en largos turnos y luego ir al hospital por las noches para estar con él, su hija de 16 años que también ha estado yendo y viniendo entre casa, escuela y hospital para estar con él. No hace falta decir que las facturas se han ido acumulando rápidamente y la parte más difícil está por llegar, viven en un tercer piso y tendrán que ser reubicados en un primer piso, por lo que están considerando gastos importantes próximamente y solo Margarita se hará cargo de ser el proveedor hasta que pueda recuperarse Guillermo. Nuestra fe permanece intacta y con la ayuda de todos ustedes permitirá a los Giraldo afrontar este largo proceso con mayor tranquilidad. En última instancia, confían en que Dios estará con ellos y no se rendirá porque todas sus victorias serán en Su nombre.
