Folly Builders present Paradisium ✨

debuting at Burning Man 2022… welcome to the journey!

 

A grove of patterned trees emerges from the playa, covered in exotic flora, playful birds, and wiley squirrels... dreamers lounge and meditate among the trunks while explorers play in the canopy... you’ve found Paradisium!

 

Paradisium is a thriving ecosystem, a forest rising from the ashes of The Folly, an oasis growing from the alkaline lake bed, a destination not to be missed. The geometric trees, built mostly out of recycled and reclaimed wood, support an interconnected canopy, while meandering pathways lead to an opening in the center creating a labyrinth of wonder.

 

Visitors can climb the larger trees into the catwalks above, with views of flowers blooming in the branches and beyond to deep playa. While under the shade of the canopy, you can catch glimpses of the art and magic hidden within the tree trunks.

 

 

 

Philosophy & Sustainability Commitments

The effects of climate change are becoming increasingly obvious in every corner of our planet. While we might sometimes feel like our individual actions don’t amount to much; as a collective - we can make a difference! Reducing consumption, reusing & repurposing, moving towards renewables, and planting more trees can help to create a positive and lasting impact!

 

Paradisium reminds us of the forest's beauty, our interconnectedness and our interdependence with nature while fostering a sense of community and an investment in our shared future.

 

How our Teams are supporting our Sustainability Goals

Paradisium is being built primarily out of reclaimed lumber crowdsourced in the Bay Area (the Folly was built using 50% reclaimed materials). Our engineering team is designing the modular trees with efficient transportation in mind to decrease the number of truck loads. Our lighting and soundscape teams are designing with efficiency in mind and with the goal to be fully solar-powered during the event. Our logistics team is keeping close track of materials to determine our carbon footprint and we plan to offset our impacts through planting trees in partnership with Art for Trees .
