We need your help.
We are putting together money for a down payment on a house. We have just enough now and literally anything helps.
For seven years our landlord has made our lives unnecessarily stressful, by incorrectly alleging we are in violation of our lease, by suing us for eviction, by serving us with Notices of Eviction which amount to legal harassment, by trying to impose lease changes by sneaking them into other paperwork, removing and downgrading amenities, and by being hostile to simple repair requests. Currently our landlord is pursuing a legal eviction through the Landlord and Tenant Board.
There is NO guarantee we will win this case. Even if we win the current case, it is also clear to us that the landlord (through its staff) will keep harassing us until we move out.
Being constantly under siege in our own home has taken its toll on us physically, mentally, emotionally, and financially.
We have scraped together enough for a down payment, but the up-front cash is the major limiting factor on our allowed mortgage amount. The more we have for our down payment the more realistic having a good home becomes.
Right now, every penny helps! We will put it to good use. Getting a better down-payment means a house in a safer neighborhood, and enough space.
Right now we are in the situation between choosing between enough space for three people or a safe and suitable location.
We're looking at Hamilton, Guelph, or Oshawa as places we could live. We have friends and families in each of these cities. They also have strong LGTBQ+ communities and resources which we need to access.
We really hope to get a place in a queer-friendly, pedestrian-accessible neighborhood. We want our house to have a separate tenant or "in-law" suite to rent, and a garage, shed, or basement we can use as workshop for our businesses. This is important because the two compliment each other--the workshop brings in decent, but unstable income, while having tenants adds a smaller consistent income.
This year, we are asking instead of celebrating our birthdays or Christmas with gifts please help by donating to our down payment, if you can. It would make a much bigger impact on our lives and happiness then anything else could right now.
This would mean the world to Vexx and I, and it would be a relief to get security and stability, so we can thrive instead of barely getting by. We hope to move in the next 1-3 months so the sooner you can help the better. IMPORTANT: we will totally throw a classy holy-crap-we-got-a-house party once we get to move in where everyone is invited. Pizza is classy, right? ;)
