Help Dr. Jan Grow Cerebral Palsy Clinic

Dr. Jan and the team at 1 CP Place have changed our family’s life. My son Luca, now 23, has been a patient of Dr. Jan’s since he was 2 years old. I first heard about Dr. Jan from an article in the New York Times and knew we needed to meet her. We truly believe that the type of care and support Luca has received from Dr. Jan throughout his life and from the 1CP Place team for the last 10 years cannot be found anywhere else.

On February 2nd, 2015, Dr. Janice Brunstrom-Hernandez opened the doors to 1 CP Place, a cerebral palsy clinic in the suburbs of Dallas, TX, to create a place where patients can receive neurological consultations and specialized therapy under one roof. Cerebral Palsy is a lifelong disability and the most common movement disability of childhood, and Dr. Jan provides care for her patients unlike any other provider we have met. She spends 60-90 minutes per visit, addressing the needs of the whole child and taking the time to listen to patients and parents and answer their questions. Nowadays, physicians typically can only spend less than 15 minutes with patients. Dr. Jan strongly prioritizes her patients’ well-being and knows what it takes to properly evaluate and treat individuals with CP.

1 CP Place is a small but mighty clinic. They have served more than 900 families in the last 10 years, including patients and families like ours who travel from across the country - some across the world - to receive care from Dr. Jan. Unfortunately, the past 5 years have taken a toll on the clinic. Changes in healthcare reimbursement and a rollercoaster economy have resulted in lower revenues for time spent with patients. This, in turn, has led to difficulty hiring additional staff and therapists and replacing worn-down equipment, all of which are needed to further advance the team’s vision of care.

We are honored to come alongside 1 CP Place as they seek to continue providing comprehensive care to families affected by Cerebral Palsy and increase their impact through the growth of the therapy department and other staff and equipment needs!
