Help Grover’s Road to Recovery

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Lacey and I am not one to ask for help but have realized its time after the recent financial hardship of my cat Grover’s second exploratory surgery.

My husband and I adopted Grover when he was 3 months old. From the start he had a difficult life. His mom passed away when he was a kitten, he was riddled with parasites and ringworm, but he fought through and had the sweetest spunkiest personality I had ever seen in a cat.

Unfortunately, a few months after adopting Grover he developed Pica, a rare condition where he eats non-food items like plastic, silicone, and fabric. We quickly started to change our life trying to keep him safe including putting him on medication. It has been an incredibly hard uphill battle with numerous expenses we could never have anticipated. We unfortunately have also been denied insurance coverage because his pica is considered a preexisting condition.

In January 2023 Grover underwent exploratory surgery for ingesting silicone. During his recovery he had a complication where he was unable to go to the bathroom. In two weeks we spent over 3,000 in vet bills.

In the fall of 2023 he also ate some unknown poisonous plant which resulted in two emergency visits and another 2,000 in vet bills.

Grover had also been brought to the vet numerous times to force vomiting after eating non-food items which resulted in more vet bills, each hundreds of dollars.

This week Grover again began showing signs of gastrointestinal distress and after many tests and a trip to the emergency clinic, he was diagnosed with intestinal intussusception most likely caused by his previous surgery and recently having a bad upper respiratory virus. This condition causes the intestines to telescope in on themselves which creates a blockage. Unfortunately, Grover’s tissue has begun to die so they had to remove parts of his bowel and reconnect it resulting in a much more complicated and expensive surgery.

Grover has been through so much in his short three years of life but he is our fur child and we will continue to fight for him. Any help is very appreciated. Thank you

Sincerely,

The Toigos
