Help Groot Heal: Support for Vet Care

Hey everyone!

Heartbreak has struck our family as my parent’s dog Groot sustained major injuries in a dog fight Friday night. He is currently at the vet in the ICU and will have 24 hour care for the next week and a half to help manage his pain and injuries. Groot’s right arm and shoulder is in very rough shape as he is not out of the woods yet. He’s undergoing multiple surgeries, IV antibiotics and narcotics to manage his pain. He has a torn bicep, torn tendons and ligaments, has exposed bone, and many many puncture wounds on his neck and left arm. He has to go under anesthesia for the next several days to clean his wounds due to the excruciating pain he is in.

I am asking for anything to help my parents as each day he is there and the more care and unexpected turns that occur in his care become very costly would appreciated.

Update on Groot: 9/9/24 He is more alert today as the are trying to wean him off of his pain medication. He is not eating at the moment especially since he can not move due to the pain so they placed a nasogastric tube so he can get nutrition until he is able to eat. He also had a urinary catheter placed to help him. He is flipped every 4 hours to avoid pressure sores. He has a lot more swelling today. We appreciate so many people sharing and donating it means the world to us and Groot appreciates it! He has an amazing team working on him and we are so fortunate to have all of you!

Update on Groot 9/24/24- We are going on about 3 weeks with Groot not being home and still at the emergency vet ICU. He has had many dressing changes every 3 days where he has to be put under to irrigate his large wounds to allow for new tissue growth. He has had some ups but also some downs. He has had infections in his wounds which require antibiotics and cultures every time he has a dressing change. One of the cultures came back that told the vet that he needed a special kind of antibiotic that costs $600+ and another antibiotic that was $400+ Groot’s stay is not over yet and the bill is still climbing as my parent’s bill is over $20,000. We appreciate all the donations we have received so far and are so grateful! We are a little over a third of the way to reach our goal!
