Monday morning, we found our fur baby Grim paralyzed. He had no movement in his extremities and was trying to drag his body through the house but was unable.
I immediately called and left a message for his vet to see him, but when they returned the call, they said they couldn't. This problem is bigger than their office; he needs an animal hospital and a specialist.
Fast forward to Monday afternoon, I located a sanctuary that was able to do the imaging needed, and that alone drained our savings account.
He was diagnosed with a spinal stroke, or Fibrocartilaginous Embolism. In regular terms, a piece of spinal cartilage enters the spinal blood vessels, cutting off circulation and oxygen.
Grim is a 5.5-year-old otherwise healthy Pekingese. He's the sweetest boy ever.
The only treatment for this is long-term care with therapy and medication. If he makes it through this, it could take weeks for him to regain movement, but none of this is possible until we can secure the funds for this.
We won't let him suffer, we also don't want to have to make that decision at this point.
