Dear Friends,

I come to you deeply humbled to ask for help with the funeral and shipping costs of my wife's grandmother and her mother's extensive medical bills. I have never done this before but my wife's family is in a very desperate situation and needs help.

Last week my wife Ioana's mother was rushed to the ER, where she was hospitalized for a week due to several blood clots in her lungs with congestive heart failure.  During the time that she was hospitalized, her mother Mama Ica (Ioana's grandmother) died suddenly from a heart attack in front of her home. Ioana and I rushed there and we watched while they tried to revive her for almost an hour before she passed. To add insult to injury, her family was left with her body laying there to figure out the next steps. It took three hours of additional pain and suffering waiting for a transport to arrive.

Mama Ica was here visiting us from Romania and got stuck here because of COVID travel restrictions. Her biggest fear was dying here and not being laid to rest next to her deceased husband in her village. As a devout Orthodox cremation isn’t allowed so we must arrange for her body to be transported to Romania so she can receive her final rites and a proper burial. The costs associated with this are extremely high but her family is determined to honor and respect her wishes. We cannot let her down.

Unfortunately their family has been in a dire financial situation so these costs are devastating to them. Her mom hasn’t been able to work due to Covid as a massage therapist and her dad has significantly lost a majority of his income as an Uber driver. They cannot afford health insurance and with her dad’s open heart surgery a little over year ago their debt is mounting. Now given this situation with her mom's health, the hospital stay, plus the costs associated with her grandmother's funeral and transport of the body, the costs are going to be astronomical.
