Help Gretel Fight Acute Myeloid Leukemia
In August 2025, our beloved Gretel received news that changed her life overnight—she was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), a rare and aggressive form of pediatric blood cancer.
Outside of the current context, I don’t think anyone who knows Gretel would describe her as a ‘fighter’ - she is a ‘lover’ - outwardly kind and caring, with a heart of gold. But do not mistake her kindness for weakness. She loves her family and her friends and her life and in her gentle nature belies a TOUGHNESS that has been on full display since this ordeal began.
The path ahead is going to be incredibly challenging. AML requires immediate and intensive treatment, including rounds of chemotherapy, countless tests and blood transfusions, and potentially a bone marrow transplant. Gretel will be in-patient for at least 6 months.
As you can imagine, the physical and emotional toll is overwhelming—but so too is the financial burden. Gretel being alone is not an option for their family. Holly is with Gretel at the hospital Monday through Friday and is unable to work. Pete is with Gretel Friday through Sunday and will potentially be taking FMLA and receiving only a percentage of his salary. Insurance is not covering everything and the cost of care on top of missed income is more than Gretel's family can shoulder alone.
While nothing can erase the emotional and physical challenges ahead, we can help ease the financial burden so Gretel's family can focus on what truly matters: being there for Gretel.
Please keep Gretel in your thoughts and prayers.
