Gregory came down with the flu November 23rd and was admitted to the hospital on November 28th. He rapidly declined as doctors worked to find all the sources of infection. What started out as flu, turned to double pneumonia, to necrotizing pneumonia, to sepsis, to abscesses in his throat and lungs. The antibiotics that were administered had a difficult time getting into the pockets of his lungs due to effects of vaping. His doctors worked tirelessly to get his vitals stable and his fever regulated.
Gregory was then moved to a larger hospital in Greenville SC where the docs put chest tubes and eventually performed a VATS surgery where they found 10 abscesses in his left lung. Gregory spent the majority of this month in a medically induced coma while he was on a vent. They have recently put in a trach and removed the tubes from his mouth so he can be more comfortable, and ween from sedation. Gregory is continuing to slowly improve each day. His fevers have been a bit lower and his heart is looking much better than it was in the beginning!
Gregory is dearly loved by his family and community! He’s full of love and compassion, and makes everyone laugh.
This Christmas we would like to come along side of his family and offer support to help with expenses incurred while he’s been in the hospital. Both parents have been by his side non stop, and his father has missed almost a full month of work. Gregory’s Momma has congestive heart failure and has been out of work since 2018.
They were not able to stay at the hospital once he was moved to Greenville and began paying for hotels. As he is slowing improving they are trying to make it back home a bit more to limit expenses.
Gregory’s family has asked for nothing but consistent prayer. However, in the spirit of Christmas and community let’s give a helping hand to Gregory and his family!!
The out pouring of love and prayers has been absolutely incredible! People from all over the country are following his updates, people are praying, and asking how to help.
So here we go! Please feel free to share!
