My name is Paul Rowley and I've known Greg Satorie-Robinson for over 33 years. He started as the organist and choir director of my church in 1991 and he is still serving. In that time, he not only fulfilled his job playing music, leading the choir, and singing God's praise, but he has lived his faith and has been an inspiration to many people, myself included.
Recently, however, Greg's health insurance changed and it now no longer covers his life-saving HIV medication. The cost is about $4,000 per month. Although Greg will turn 65 in October and will then be eligible for Medicare, unless funds are found to cover the 6-month gap, he will face a very uncertain future. This effort is to help Greg get the medication he needs for the next few months and to very likely save his life.
Greg was first diagnosed with HIV in 1987. At that time, he educated himself on natural remedies, herbs, and diet and implemented those things in his life. Additionally, in 1995, he was enrolled in the Maryland AIDS Drugs Assistance Program (MADAP), which started him on the road to healing through a long list of medication combinations over many years. That has worked for Greg for 30 years. His HIV viral load has been undetectable and he is currently strong, well, and mostly functional. This has truly been a miracle! Now, however, that may change due to the health insurance issue that happened because his life partner had done well enough that their household income was just a little too much for Greg to remain eligible to continue with MADAP.
Over the years, Greg taught HIV prevention to tens of thousands of students in schools and universities around Baltimore and Washington, DC, spent four months making 2 trips to Africa to teach HIV prevention and positive living with HIV, wrote a booklet on how to survive and how to start a support group, planted many things and harvested tons of fruit and vegetables for healthy eating, housed scores of people in his own home who had nowhere to live, and has had a wonderful productive life with his husband and life partner, Alexander. After giving so much to others, Greg is now the one who needs help.
I am hopeful that we can find a way for Greg to get the medication he needs. Any donation is appreciated. Regardless of whether you are able to contribute, please pass this on to others. Thank you!
