On July 23rd, our dad, Greg Stepp, suffered a hypertensive stroke while on an Alaskan cruise with our mom, Terri. What followed was a whirlwind none of us could have imagined: Dad was taken off the ship by lifeboat to Prince Rupert hospital, then life-flighted to Vancouver General Hospital, where he could get the specialized care he needed.
Once he arrived in Vancouver, he went straight into surgery for a craniotomy and the placement of an EVD (a drain to relieve pressure in his brain). As of July 28th, he is still intubated and in the ICU, and the damage from the stroke is significant. We are taking things day by day, but we've started to see positive neurological signs, and we are feeling encouraged.
Our mom, Terri, and Dad's two daughters, Lindsay and I (Anna), are currently by his side in Vancouver. Our goal right now is to get him stable enough to travel back home to Minnesota, where we can be surrounded by family and begin the next stage of his long-term care and recovery.
This journey has already resulted in unexpected out-of-country costs, including medical care, travel, and lodging in Vancouver for our family. Now, our focus is on bringing Dad home and supporting his recovery. Any support you can offer, whether it's a donation, a share, or simply a prayer or kind thought, means more to our family than we can say.
Thank you for standing with us during this incredibly hard time. We'll continue to post updates on Dad's progress here.
With love and gratitude,
Terri, Anna, and Lindsay
