On Sunday 11/23, my brother Greg and sister-in-law Mindy experienced a devastating house fire that left their home a complete loss. Thankfully everyone is safe. But in just minutes, everything familiar and comforting was gone. Their two high school–aged daughters, Rylee and Bella, lost all of their personal belongings. Their bedrooms were hit the hardest, and almost nothing could be saved.
What makes this loss even harder is knowing what that home meant— not just to them, but to so many others. Greg and Mindy’s house has always been a place where people gathered. Whether it was teammates stopping by, neighborhood kids hanging out, family cookouts, team dinners, or just friends needing a place to land, their door was always open. They created a home that made everyone feel welcome, included, and taken care of. It was a hub of laughter, support, and community, and losing it has been heartbreaking.
If you know Greg and Mindy, you know how much they give of themselves. They have spent years pouring into youth sports—coaching dozens of teams and touching the lives of hundreds of kids in the Brooklyn area. Greg is always the first to step up. He currently assists with Michigan Premiere Basketball, T2 Softball, Michigan Classics Softball, and serves as the assistant coach for the Columbia Central High School girls varsity basketball team. He was at a practice Sunday when the fire started.
Now, they need the community they’ve supported for so long.
As they begin the long insurance and rebuilding process, they are suddenly faced with immediate needs—finding a rental home, replacing daily essentials, and purchasing clothes, toiletries, and basic items just to get through the next few weeks. The loss is overwhelming, and the road ahead difficult.
I’m asking for your help—whether it’s through a donation, a share, or simply keeping them in your prayers. Every bit of support will help lighten the heavy load they’re carrying and bring some stability back into Rylee and Bella’s lives.
Thank you for taking the time to read their story and for any support you are able to give. It truly means more than words can express.
With gratitude,
Brian Knapp
