On February 19, 2026, the most special little guy made his highly anticipated entrance into the world. Grayson Mark Lewis's birth culminated in a few surprises. Grayson was found to have a few prenatally unknown anomalies upon delivery. Thankfully, both mama and baby made it through the delivery, and Grayson had his first surgery at just 4 days of life. Upon completion of that surgery, and when it was deemed safe, a trial at extubation was attempted and failed. Grayson has had a few more attempts at extubation since that first surgery, and each attempt has been unsuccessful. In the interim, Grayson had more in depth genetic testing completed, and he has been found to have an extremely rare genetic abnormality (RAC1-related disorder, which both Riley and Joey tested negative for, so it was not inherited). He is now one of 8 known cases, so the variances of his condition are still vastly unknown. This past week (March 30) Grayson underwent a tracheostomy placement so that he could be extubated, meaning he will also have a ventilator, at least for the time being. Grayson will have a gastrostomy tube placed at a later date.
Grayson's parents, Riley and Joey, understandably want the absolute best for their little guy, including the home that he gets to come home to. At this time, Grayson will be able to come home from the hospital approximately 6-8 weeks after the tracheostomy surgery. When he is discharged, he will essentially have a NICU room full of equipment and supplies coming home with them. With Grayson's tracheostomy needs, he will require 24-hour care (which will include overnight nursing care), they cannot travel alone in the car without a person being able to visibly watch Grayson in case of trach issues, so the ability for Riley to work outside the home is also not very realistic. Their current home and layout is suboptimal for space, convenience, and the ability to power the ventilation system properly as they are renting and are limited in what they can do.
Would you consider contributing to assist in making the transition home, either to their current home with upgrades or to aid in them finding a better alternative for housing?
