Grayson Starling, one of the kindest, funniest, most open-hearted people in this world, beloved friend, son, brother and uncle, was diagnosed with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or Lou Gehrig's disease) at age 34. ALS is a fatal, progressive neurological condition that takes away your ability to speak, move, eat, and breathe. There is no clear disease origin and no cure. While we have hope in science pushing ALS treatments forward, there are no long term treatments available yet.
Receiving this cruel diagnosis has changed his and our family's lives forever. Grayson has bravely begun to grapple with major life changes as his ALS progresses, doing so with his signature humor, surrounded by friends from all walks of life from all around the world. ALS progresses differently for every person living with it, but there is no path forward without significant changes and losses along the way.
As we stand by Grayson on his ALS journey, we are hoping to support him lovingly and practically. Our aim is to make Grayson's life with ALS as manageable, dignified, and independent as possible, for as long as possible.
To do this, we are asking for your help. ALS is an incredibly expensive and unpredictable condition. Finances are one of the biggest stressors for people living with ALS and their families. Like so many ALS families, we are anticipating exponential costs of living and hard choices in this journey.
Our ask: join us. Please consider donating to support Grayson!
Funds raised today will immediately: pay for medical bills for mental health services and alternative or off-label ALS therapies his insurance does not cover; supplement monthly living expenses that Grayson's disability does not cover to allow him to have the highest quality of life possible for the longest amount of time; pay for things that bring joy (togetherness opportunities, travel, experiences).
As his ALS progresses, funds raised here will help buy: large adaptable living purchases, i.e. a motorized wheelchair, home lifts and other installed adaptive equipment, in-home assistance, moving or home upgrade costs, subscriptions or payments for voice adaptation or cloning technology, voice banking, and specialized equipment for speech.
Thank you!
