Help get Grayson Radioactive Iodine Treatment
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Julia and anyone who knows me knows that my cats are my entire life and I wouldn’t know where I’d be without them! Grayson, my 8-year-old gray cat, came into my life because I couldn’t handle the death of my previous cat who had passed away from diabetes! Ironically, Grayson's birthday is the day I had to put my previous cat down! It was the one sign that I knew it was meant to be!
However, I recently found out that Grayson has hyperthyroidism! Hyperthyroidism is a condition where his thyroid is overproducing too much thyroid hormone, causing him to lose weight even though he eats way too much food and just isn’t acting like himself! This can also be accompanied by a nodule or tumor, which could be benign or cancerous! Unfortunately, Grayson does have a nodule!
Oral medications can be done twice a day for the rest of his life, but it will not stop the nodule from growing, and most cats end up with kidney and heart issues down the road while also having to do repeat blood work anywhere between every 6-8 weeks or every 6 months, which would be costly in the end! There is an option for Radioactive Iodine treatment (I-131)! It’s a cure for cats with hyperthyroidism as it destroys the overactive tissue and normalizes the thyroid hormones! It’s a treatment that also requires 48 hours of hospitalization as he will be radioactive, which again is costly but more effective and less costly if he were to have all the meds, blood work, and potential issues down the line! The treatment is anywhere between $1,700-$1,800! If anyone could help donate, I would be so thankful to each and every person for helping save my baby and letting him enjoy the rest of his life without as many complications!
