Support Grayson County's Path to Recovery

Southwest Virginians are currently facing the worst natural disaster they have ever known. For many, this is a once in a lifetime event. URGENT HELP IS NEEDED!

Grayson County, VA has been stripped by the raging waters of the New River caused by Hurricane Helene. It is predicted that the New River crested at historic levels over 24 feet. Main roads have crumbled, bridges have been washed away, and secondary roads are completely impassable. This has left many residents trapped & cut off from society. Power outages are also substantial and those in more rural areas will not have electricity or running water for many weeks. As colder weather sets in, the situation is dire! Many schools across the county are closed because of flooding and structural damage; meaning kids are out of school for the foreseeable future. Some businesses are unable to open without electricity & running water. Many homes and/ or farms have extensive damage and the loss of livestock is inevitable, as some farms run alongside the New River.

Volunteers are desperately trying to make it to the hardest hit areas in our county that currently have no communication to the outside world. Volunteers & residents are using UTVs, 4-wheelers, tractors, & horses to deliver supplies. Other areas are only accessible by foot due to mudslides and/or downed live powerlines.

Linemen from all over the country and Department of Transportation employees are risking their lives to work round the clock to get these areas back on the grid. First responders are also working tirelessly to get to those that need immediate assistance.

Why Donate?

We are a farming community. Many residents hold a full-time job while running a farm. For other residents, farming is their livelihood. Some of our small-town farmers supply meat and/or dairy to popular grocery stores like Whole Foods & other prominent markets across the state of VA.

Many of our beautiful landmarks & tourist destinations have catastrophic damage to parts of the infrastructure and are now closed to the public until further notice.

How Will Your Donations Be Used?

Your donations have already helped families in the western end of the county (specifically Rugby & Middle Fork area). Supplies included baby formula, diapers, water, over-the-counter medicine like Benadryl Allergy Liqui-Gels & Children's Benadryl chewables, Calamine lotions, & dehumidifiers for homes that have sustained flood damage.

Other supplies have helped volunteers with clean up efforts. These supplies included rakes, shovels, axes, crow bars, pruning shears, hammers, protective eyewear, gloves, dust masks, and mold/ mildew remover. Your donations will continue to help the residents of Grayson County, VA that were heavily impacted by Hurricane Helene.
