Hello, my name is Grant Smith-Ellis and I am a disabled law student and journalist.
Earlier today, I got the news that my own mother is moving to evict me after I fell behind on paying her each month earlier this fall (while going to school and suffering a number of health complications). I only owe her roughly $1,5000, but she also intends to submit pictures of my room, while I was bedbound, to embarrass me during the process. She is also refusing to accept state assistance from RAFT to cover the back rent.
I also found out that my mother did not follow through with an existing commitment to pay my law school tuition, and thus I may not be able to graduate in December without raising those funds, which amount to $5,000. Not graduating would break my heart, as I made a promise to my dad that I would make it through school before he passed last May.
I don't know what the eviction process entails, I am severely disabled and have no where else to turn, and I have no one in the world outside of my mom.
I have always loved my mom but, in recent months, she really became angry with me when I started talking about some of the witnesses in the orbit of the Karen Read and John O'Keefe case.
I'm so sorry I failed you all.
