Help Grant Overcome His Medical Setback
Donation protected
Good People,
If you know Grant Dermody, you know that he shines his light far and wide and brings a lot of love and joy to everyone he crosses paths with. He does this through his incredible music, infectious laughter, and with his excellent listening skills. This takes tremendous heart, which brings us to the reason for this fundraiser.
Grant’s big, generous heart has been struggling recently.
It started with a couple of alarming episodes of shortness of breath over an eight-month period, which were concerning enough to warrant some medical tests. Meanwhile, fatigue took over, and Grant was prevented from working as much as he needed to for ends to meet. He was limited in his ability to gig or teach lessons, which meant it was hard for him to meet the usual monetary demands of life, let alone to pay for mounting medical bills. It’s pretty hard to play harmonica when you can’t breathe!
Answers were not forthcoming. It took traveling back and forth to Seattle and beyond, and a lot of persistence on Grant’s part to arrive at the conclusion that three of his arteries were significantly blocked. More waiting and testing and shortness of breath went on and on while Grant attended more doctor visits and had scans to determine the extent of the damage.
Once those results were in, everything suddenly went from taking forever, to an immediate need for surgery. Good thing Grant applied those wonderful deep-listening skills, and was diligent about getting his body the help it was asking for.
Things got even more complicated when Grant went in for his procedure.
Two stents were successfully placed, one in each of the two mostly clogged arteries, but it turned out he would have to return for a second operation with a different specialist to correct the third one. That artery had become completely obstructed, and would require three stents, all its own. Plus, some of the surrounding tissue had become damaged.
This meant an even longer time for Grant to be displaced, more time without income while he was operated on for a second time, and of course, ample down time for healing.
The good news is both procedures were successful, and Grant’s prognosis looks great! He should be able to keep on groovin’ for many years to come with the help of this new hardware. He’s back to working again, however, it’s landed him in a big hole, and he could use some help recovering from this big financial set back.
Please consider donating. No amount is too large or too small, and any is greatly appreciated. Of course, not everyone is able to contribute financially, in which case, you can still help by spreading the word. Regardless of how much you can share, be like Grant, and make a big sound. Please pass the hat by sharing the link to this GoFundMe campaign on your social media sites and elsewhere, so we can rain down support on this stellar human.
All donations collected will be put towards medical bills and costs incurred when Grant was unable to work.
Thank you!
