On March 19, my husband Grant Buxton went from a very healthy, active man to nearly dying. He woke up normal, went to use the restroom when he suddenly realized something was very wrong. As strong-willed as he is, he drove himself to the local ER where he was diagnosed with diverticulitis and faced a ruptured colon, emergency surgery, and a sigmoid colostomy. Without immediate intervention, this diagnosis would have been fatal. Thanks to skilled doctors and nurses and a quick reaction time, Grant survived—but the road to recovery will be long, slow, and painful. Then, 5 days later, on March 25, complications due to infection required a second surgery, leaving him with a deep wound and extended recovery time. He will require an ostomy bag for at least six months before he can undergo another surgery to have his colon reattached, and remove the need for an ostomy bag. We are private pay patients, he is without health insurance, and we do not qualify for Medicaid.
Funds donated will help cover the cost of the hospital bill, ostomy bag supplies, and outpatient care upon discharge from the hospital. Particularly given Grant’s past activity level, he will struggle with not only the physical limitations from this procedure, but the emotional toll of how life will change for him in the future. Every day brings new challenges and renewed hope. Your support can make a real difference in giving Grant the care he needs to heal and thrive. No contribution is too small. If you cannot donate, sharing this campaign helps immensely. Your generosity gives Grant relief and the opportunity to recover and thrive after such a significant health crisis. From our hearts to yours, thank you for supporting Grant and his loved ones during this difficult time.
