On New Year's Day, tragedy struck my grandpa and his family when a fire destroyed their home. As if that loss wasn't enough, my grandpa is also battling incurable stage four lung cancer that has spread throughout his body. He had made end-of-life preparations, but nothing could have prepared us for losing everything so suddenly—including our beloved kitty, Bella. The home was meant to be a place of comfort for his wife, Martha, and his seven-year-old granddaughter, Juni, who just celebrated her birthday in November and Christmas a week ago. Now, they are left with nothing but memories and uncertainty.

Juni is worried about where she will live and how she will get to school, and my grandpa is carrying the weight of these worries on top of his illness. The oncologist has told us that stress can literally speed up his decline, so our greatest hope is to ease his mind and help him find peace in his final days.
