Grandpa Smokey has been through more than any cat should. When I found him, he was so small and weak that I thought he was a kitten. The vet told me he was actually about 11 years old—he was just that underweight and depleted. He had mange and scabies all over his head and body he could barely see, his skin was raw and infected, he had worms, anemia from fleas, and a broken tail. Most of his teeth are missing, and he had mouth ulcers that made eating outside almost impossible. I’m not sure how he managed to survive all these years like this.
I set him up in my bathroom so he could rest and start to heal. Even though he was in rough shape, he was so gentle, allowed me to help him and trusted me from the start. He’s already made progress: he’s putting on weight, mange has cleared, his fur is coming back and his skin is looking better. But Smokey still needs a lot of medical care. His eye has become infected and irritated, he’s got nasal/respiratory congestion, and he might be dealing with viral flare-ups after years without treatment. I already have two young cats and a small place, so I can’t keep him forever—but I won’t let him go back outside. He deserves to be safe and comfortable for the rest of his little life.
I’m raising funds to cover ongoing bloodwork, dental evaluation, treatment for his eyes and skin, and to get him ready for adoption. Every dollar goes straight to Smokey’s care and his shot at a real forever home. This old guy has fought so hard to survive.
Thank you for helping give him the life he deserves.
