A grandmother and granddaughter need your help to publish their children's book! Donate to help print The Adventures of Culco and Chacho, a heart-centered story of indigenous wisdom, Mexico, and the power of love.

“Hi, I'm Bella Little, and I have written this first book with my Grandma. I am nine years old. I'm an artist, a pitcher, and a Girl Scout. I love my two dogs, Ruby and Oliver, my family, and my friends. I live in Southern California.”

“Hi, I'm Bella's grandmother, Patricia Garza Pinto, a holistic wellness practitioner offering energy medicine healing for women. I'm of Mexican, Spanish, and Native American descent.”

Bella and Patricia are ready to publish! This beautiful children's book is finished and illustrated. It's time to bring it to life. What will your donation cover? (Please note: even small donations ($5 or $10) help!

Why is this book important? It will teach kids about:

1. Reconnecting to LOVE

The main characters of The Adventures of Culco and Chacho are a donkey and a chihuahua. They meet four grandmothers who represent indigenous wisdom and go on a loving adventure. It is through the pure innocence and light of the animals that we are able to tap into the love inside ourselves. During this time of separation, we need simple ways to connect with each other. Let's show that to our children.

2. Celebrating Mexican Culture

Indigenous culture holds keys to our awakening and remembrance of what is important. The names of the characters were inspired by Patricia's sister as she cleaned the cultural Mexican artwork in Patricia's home. They are affectionate terms of endearment for a Mexican god and a Huichol shaman. The book also contains a Spanish glossary.

A Note from Patricia

"As Bella’s grandmother, and as her cultural elder, I believe it's my responsibility to teach her about her heritage. One year, around Thanksgiving, shortly after Bella had turned nine, she told me, "I learned about the Native Americans and Thanksgiving." I said, "Oh! That's great, Bella. You know, you have some Native American blood in you. And actually, they call themselves The First Nation's people now. Bella said, "No, I don't" and smiled. I said, "Yes, you do. I have 43% in my blood, which means your mother has a little less than that and you have a little less than she does. I guarantee you have some Native American blood that runs through you. You also have relatives and ancestors from Mexico and Spain." She didn't believe me until I started explaining it to her.

It's very important for me to bring this book and wisdom through to her and other kids. This book is my gift to Bella. Together, this book is our gift to the world. Help us make it real and spread it to kids everywhere."
