Hi everyone, I’m fundraising to help my 83 yr old grandmother Odilie Marin, recover from losing everything in a house fire. In the late hours of April 20th at approximately 10:00 pm, my grandmother’s house (in Costa Rica) caught on fire and burned to the ground.
Thankfully, grandma was staying at my aunt’s house and nobody was hurt. The fire department and family rushed to her house and were able to put out the fire and avoid extending to the forest, but nothing was salvageable. She lost ALL of her lifetime belongings and memories. This was the house she lived in for the last 32 years, 26 of those with grandpa and where she stayed after he passed away 6 yrs ago. Very unfortunately she, like most people in the village, did not have insurance.
Family, friends and the community are collaborating to try and build her a new home. We’re all so grateful for the labor, material and monetary donations we’ve received in Costa Rica and since my international friends have asked how they can help, I’ve decided to start this Gofundme campaign to aid in replacing her furnishings once that house is built. Every dollar raised will be used to help buy her new appliances and furniture.
Since Gofundme is not supported in Costa Rica, per their rules I’ll be responsible for withdrawing the funds and ensuring they go to the beneficiary. I plan to go to Costa Rica at the end of May, by which we expect the construction to be well under way and buy and deliver the furnishings. Any amount that you could contribute would mean the world to grandma and our family.
Thank you so much in advance for your generosity!
