I am telling the story for my Grandma!
At 77 years young, my grandmother has always been the heart of our family. But as she approaches her 78th birthday this year, her world has shrunk to the size of her living room.
The Daily Struggle
For most of us, stepping outside to feel the sun or getting a glass of water are things we don't think twice about. For my grandmother, these are currently impossible luxuries. Due to severe heart problems and the loss of her ability to walk, she is now permanently in a wheelchair.
Because her home lacks a proper deck and a functional ramp, she is effectively a prisoner in her own house. ### The Critical Needs
We are looking to raise funds or find volunteers to address three life-changing issues:
The Ramp & Deck: she lives in a trailer
Currently, there is no safe way to get her wheelchair over the threshold and down to the ground. A new deck and ramp would mean she could finally attend doctor's appointments without a team of people to lift her, or simply sit outside and breathe fresh air.
Water Access:
Her plumbing has failed, leaving her without reliable access to running water. For someone with her health conditions, hygiene and hydration are not just comforts—they are medical necessities.
Financial Reality:
Like many of her generation, she lives on a fixed Social Security income. Every penny goes to medication and basic utilities; there is simply nothing left over for the massive cost of construction and plumbing repairs.
Why Your Help Matters:
My grandmother has spent her life taking care of others. Now, her heart is tired, and her body can no longer navigate the home she loves. We want to give her back her freedom and ensure her 78th year is one of dignity, safety, and connection to the world outside her front door.
"A home should be a sanctuary, not a cage."
