Hi, my name is Grady Bowman and I'm fundraising to help produce my latest dance work, "Before We Go," at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (my alma mater). Due to the pandemic, this will be the first time I've created my own work in two and a half years. To say that the creative juices and inspiration have been bubbling and brewing and are ready to explode would be an understatement. That's why I'm going big and that's why, for the first time, I'm asking for help.
I'm trying to raise $3,000. However, this is just 1/3 of the budget. I will be contributing $3,000 of my own money and crossing fingers & toes that UNCSA will fund another $3,000. The total of $9,000 will be used to purchase several architectural set pieces from molo design. These pieces will create the world the dancers inhabit but even more than that, the nature of their design will allow for physical interaction and movement between dancer and design.

"Before We Go" will be an exploration of life and the contemplation of death. The things we collect and carry with us as well as the things we leave behind. How we as individuals are shaped by the people we meet along the way and the experiences - significant or otherwise - that teach us, inspire us, scare us, or move us into a completely different trajectory. The thought of what we might leave behind once we move on from this material world. The reflection as we look back and wonder how we might be remembered, what we'll be remembered for, or if we'll even be remembered at all.

- 30 dancers (contemporary & ballet)
- 20 minutes in length
- Rehearsals begin mid March 2022
- Performances April 21-24, 2022 as part of UNCSA's Spring Dance concert
- Piece will be professionally filmed and edited to submit to film festivals as well as to be used for promotional purposes

As I've said before, asking for help - especially in the form of money - is a new and scary concept for me. I'm trying to create something bigger than I've ever attempted or dreamed of before. The cool thing about returning to my alma mater is that I get to collaborate, create, and give back to the students who are exactly where I once was. Actually, that's the best part. To create something where there once was nothing is one of the most exhilarating feelings I've ever experienced as an artist.
