“What the brain cannot remember, the heart cannot forget.”
#DignityinDementia

Around the summer of 2018, Dragan’s daughter started to notice that he was forgetful, and she chalked it up to him getting older. However, a year later, his daughter moved back home to take care of him because he was no longer able to form sentences and began stuttering. After a variety of tests were performed, it was determined that Dragan was suffering from microvascular ischemia, a precursor to a variety of dementias. As of current, Dragan’s condition has severely deteriorated and he is dependent on his daughter as his sole caregiver to take care of his needs such as bathing, grooming, and toileting.
Dragan has persevered in the toughest moments of life and has always offered a helping hand to those around him. He acted as choreographer at his church for 15 years and taught many children how to dance Serbian folk dance. When he was imprisoned in a concentration camp as a prisoner of war in the 1990’s, many cited that he would share portions from food he’d receive from the outside with other prisoners in his cell.
Due to the death of his beloved wife, his daughter is his sole caregiver and is taking care of him full time and working full time to provide for the household. It has been determined that he will likely need to be transferred to a nursing home, which can cost thousands of dollars even with insurance. Any donation would be appreciated to help get Dragan the care he so desperately needs.
