Hi, my name is Gracia, and this summer I've been given an incredible opportunity to study Spanish language and culture in Málaga, Spain, through the Dickinson Spanish and Portuguese Program. This past year has been one of the most challenging and rewarding of my life so far. Moving from Chicago to Carlisle was a culture shock to say the least. My parents divorced, and my great-grandmother had a stroke and now requires 24/7 at-home care from my mother. As the youngest of 6 siblings, I'd also be the first to attend and finish college out of state, and the first to travel overseas, so there is a lot at stake. As a first-year student, I was honored to be elected Class President while simultaneously maintaining a 3.5 GPA and being a Posse Scholar. Education and growth mean everything to me, and my biggest goals have always been centered around experience.

Because I tested into Spanish 201 instead of starting in 101, I was able to qualify for this study abroad program a year earlier than expected. As soon as I learned about this program in February, I immediately started working to save for it. So far, I've been able to contribute $1,000 toward the total cost. However, I still need help raising the remaining $5,000 to make this life changing experience possible.
