This past year, our mom has been dealing with the long term effects of Covid-19, now referred to in the medical community as "long haulers" or "long Covid".
Grace has helped to heal others for many years by teaching yoga and meditation. She shared decades of joy on her blues radio show on public radio and serves her community through projects like Community of Compassion and Deep Peace Project. She has worked for many years supporting and empowering children through art and storytelling. Most recently, she spent several years as a full-time caretaker for her own mother, in her childhood home, in Chicago.
It was during her transition back to Alaska from Chicago in March 2020, just before lockdown measures were put in place, that she contracted Covid-19. For some, Covid is an illness that the body fights off in a matter of weeks. In our mom's case, and for many others, the illness becomes a chronic condition, leaving them with an array of complicated, debilitating symptoms, with multiple organs having been attacked by the virus.
Our mom’s heart has been affected, causing her to have serious symptoms which have left her deeply ill this past year. As a consequence of this illness, she has only been able to work a limited amount, which has made her situation more and more precarious. Despite having basic medical insurance, the medical bills have surpassed her ability to pay them.
Please join us in supporting our mom through this challenging time. Funds will help her to pay off her medical bills, stay afloat with everyday expenses, and finally get reestablished in Juneau as she works to heal herself.
