Help My Mom Rebuild After Hurricane Melissa Destroyed Her Home and Small Shop

Hello everyone,

My name is Peta Gaye D, and I’m originally from , St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, though I currently live in the US. I’m reaching out with a heavy heart to ask for your support for my mom, Grace K, who lost everything during the devastating passage of Hurricane Melissa.

My mom lives in Middle Quarters, just about 11 minutes from Black River one of the areas hardest hit by the storm. Before the hurricane, she owned and operated a small grocery shop that served our local community. It was more than just a source of income; it was her independence and a place where she helped others by extending credit to those who couldn’t afford food right away.

When Hurricane Melissa struck, powerful winds tore off the roof of her home and shop, destroying her merchandise, equipment, and personal belongings. Right now, she’s staying with a kind neighbor under very modest conditions. She has no means to rebuild or restart her business on her own.

I’ve created this campaign to help my mom:

1. Rebuild a safe and stable home (materials, roofing, basic furnishings)
2. Restock her grocery shop (essential goods, shelving, freezer, and scales)
3. Cover immediate living expenses such as food, clothing, and utilities until she can get back on her feet

All funds raised will go directly toward purchasing building materials and shop supplies in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica. I will personally manage the funds and provide updates and receipts for major purchases to maintain full transparency.

My mom has always been a giver the kind of person who helps others even when she doesn’t have much herself. Now she’s the one who needs help. Any contribution, big or small, will bring her one step closer to rebuilding her home, her livelihood, and her hope.

If you aren’t able to donate, please share this campaign with others who might be able to help. Your shares, prayers, and encouragement mean more than you know.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your kindness, compassion, and support.

With gratitude,
Peta Gaye D
