Our Story

In 2020, my mother’s world turned upside down when she was diagnosed with stage 3c colon cancer. After undergoing surgery to remove a tumor and completing six months of chemotherapy, we learned her cancer had spread to nearby lymph nodes, significantly increasing the likelihood of recurrence.

Despite her strength and determination, the cancer returned. In 2023, a biopsy confirmed stage 4 colon cancer, with cancer spreading to a lymph node near her pelvic area. This devastating diagnosis meant a lifelong journey of aggressive chemotherapy and monitoring.

Update (December 2024): Over the past year, my mother’s cancer has continued to progress, spreading to her lungs and retroperitoneal lymph nodes. Despite multiple rounds of treatment—including targeted chemotherapy and experimental drugs—the cancer remains aggressive. Doctors have estimated that Grace has between 6 to 10 months to live.

Right now, my mom is focusing on maintaining her quality of life. She spends most of her days resting, with moments of lucidity and strength that we treasure. She relies on pain management medications and high doses of vitamin C and CBD/THC to alleviate symptoms. While she is incredibly strong, the physical and emotional toll is immense.

My mom’s medical expenses are mostly covered by insurance, but housing and caregiving costs are not. The daily realities of caregiving—ensuring she is comfortable, managing her pain, and coordinating her care—have required me to take a leave from work, reducing our household income.
