Hi! My name is Grace Acan. I am a mother of 3 beautiful children.
On the 10th of October 1996, along with 136 other minor girl-students I was abducted by the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) from St. Mary's College Aboke in Northern Uganda. I was held captive for 8 years until I escaped with my little daughter tied to my back... I wrote a memoir 'Not Yet Sunset' based on those years...
Upon return, I co-founded the Women's Advocacy Network, a survivor-led organization, and I have been a strong survivor-advocate for reparations for survivors of conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) both Locally and internationally as a member of the SEMA Global Network.
I work with the Refugee Law Project and I have represented survivors on the board of directors of the Global Survivors Fund. I have presented survivor issues on international platforms like the Prevention of Sexual Violence in Conflict (PSVI) in both London and Colombia.
Post captivity, I have used all my efforts to amplify victims' voices and brought to light what survivors need and what needs to be done to repair their lives.
I have recently been diagnosed with a life-threatening cancerous liver tumor that needs urgent surgery worth 14 million Ugandan shillings (£3,000 approx.) This surgery will save my life. I sincerely request your help in donations, advice and prayers.
No amount is small. Please donate whatever you can. I will be deeply grateful for your support and generosity.
Thank you...
Not Yet Sunset. Not Yet.
