Help My Botswana Host Sister Finish University

EDIT: HELP GOSEGO PUSH THROUGH HER LAST YEAR OF SCHOOL

Thank you to everyone who has helped Gosego achieve her dreams these past 2 years... thanks to your generosity and kindness, Gosego has been able to complete 4 semesters of her schooling and just has 2 semesters to go! All of the money we have received has gone directly to Gosego to pay for both tuition and living expenses as a student (rent, books, exam fees, etc.). We are sharing this again and readjusting the goal to reflect how much Gosego will need to fund her last year of education. The pandemic has affected everyone worldwide and we are proud of Gosego for pushing through periods of isolation and difficulty.

Thank you to every one for your help and we hope to share photos of her graduating in the future!

With Peace and Love,
Gosego and Valerie

TL;DR This GoFundMe is for my Botswana host sister -- Gosego -- so she can afford to continue her dream of finishing University to become an accountant.

     Hi, my name is Valerie and I am a former Peace Corps Volunteer. I served as an HIV/AIDS Life Skills Educator in the remote village of Makalamabedi in Botswana. While in Botswana, I was able to build life long relationships with those in my community.
     The one friendship I hold dearest to my heart is that of my host sister Gosego. She became a ray of light and positivity in my life. Moving to a new country, learning a new language, and integrating into a new culture is not easy, but Gosego continuously showed me unconditional love, support, and acceptance. Gosego, and her family, welcomed me with open arms. She showed me around the village, introduced me to community members, and even taught me how to cook traditional meals. Gosego was an integral part in my feeling comfortable and supported. I was born an only child, however I now see her as the sister I never had.

     As Gosego and I are the same age (23), we share many of the same interests. She loves to read, dance, and bake cookies. Gosego’s greatest quality is her unconditional support for others. Whether it’s helping the local children with school work, carrying buckets of water throughout the village for neighbors, or just helping me wash dishes, she will always put everyone before herself.
     This is why I am creating a GoFundMe for Gosego. So we can put her first, and help her achieve her dream of finishing University to provide a better life for her and her family.
     Gosego’s family are cattle farmers and that is their only source of income. Due to Botswana’s extremely dry and hot climate, at times, it becomes difficult to raise and sell cattle. This has become even more challenging due to the COVID-19 pandemic. All of Gosego’s time and energy goes into helping her family and caring for her 3 year old son, Tepi.

     Gosego completed her Primary and Secondary studies with excellent grades, and was at the top of her class in almost every subject. She is very hardworking, intelligent, and loves school. In 2015, Gosego was accepted into the University of Botswana with a scholarship to study Accounting. Due to circumstances out of her control she had to withdraw from university and move back home to help her family. Since then, Gosego has attempted to re-apply for government funded scholarships to finish the remaining 3 years of her education, however she continues to get denied. As somebody who is incredibly passionate about young women pursuing higher education, I cannot let Gosego give up!!

     By donating to this GoFundMe you will be helping Gosego finally achieve her dreams of finishing her studies and graduating with an accounting degree from the University of Botswana.
     I will be transferring ALL funds directly into Gosego’s bank account and this money will go to completely paying her tuition for the remaining 3 YEARS — a total of roughly $7,200 USD ($1,200 USD per semester)… and the rest will go towards rent and personal expenses such as food and toiletries.

YEARLY Additional Fees & Expenses: = ~$4010 USD including...
Exams & Books = ~$815 USD
Rent = ~$920 USD
Food, Transport, & Personal Toiletries = ~$1,925 USD
WiFi = ~$350 USD

     Anything you can contribute will make a HUGE difference. I thank you for wanting to help Gosego, and hopefully one day we will be able to see her graduate and achieve her dreams.

Thank you and best wishes,
Valerie
