Our hearts are shattered to share that our beautiful 8-year-old Leanne passed away on July 23 after an incredibly courageous five-week battle following devastating cardiac complications caused by Influenza B.

Just five weeks earlier, what appeared to be an ordinary childhood illness turned into every parent's worst nightmare. Within 48 hours, Leanne developed fulminant myocarditis—a rare and devastating inflammation of the heart muscle that caused catastrophic damage to her heart.

For five weeks, Leanne fought with remarkable courage. She endured multiple major surgeries, including a 10-hour open-heart surgery, along with countless procedures and complications that no child should ever have to face. Despite the extraordinary efforts of the incredible team at SickKids Hospital, Leanne passed away just one day after celebrating her 8th birthday while surrounded by her loving family.

Leanne was a bright, funny, kind, and loving little girl who filled every room with joy. She loved painting, fashion, animals, playing outside, and spending time with her 9-year-old brother, Adam, who was also her very best friend. Her smile and gentle spirit touched everyone who knew her.

Leanne leaves behind her heartbroken parents, Roman and Ilona, and four grieving siblings, ages 14, 9, 3, and 2. For five weeks, her parents rarely left her bedside, holding onto hope for the miracle that never came.

Roman, the family's sole provider and a self-employed subcontractor, has been unable to work while staying by Leanne's side and is now facing the unimaginable task of caring for his grieving family. Along with the profound emotional loss, the family now faces mounting financial pressures, including lost income, funeral expenses, and the need for counselling and support for themselves and their children.

This fundraiser has one purpose: to give the Gorin family the time and financial stability to grieve, heal, and care for their four children without the immediate burden of financial hardship.

Anyone who knows Roman and Ilona knows they have always been there for others. Even in the midst of their unimaginable grief, they have shared that if funds raised exceed their family's needs, the remaining proceeds will be donated to SickKids Hospital in gratitude for the extraordinary care Leanne received and to help other families facing similar tragedies.
