Help Goose Recover After Emergency Surgery
Hi everyone,
I’m raising money for my sweet boy, Goose, who recently underwent emergency surgery to remove a life-threatening intestinal obstruction.
It all started on the morning of Wednesday, May 14th. Goose threw up once, it looked strange, and then he refused breakfast. Later that morning, he threw up again. Something in my gut told me this wasn’t normal. I took him to our vet immediately. At that point, he was still alert and somewhat himself, so they gave him some anti-nausea medication and sent us home with instructions to monitor him. Looking back, I wish I had pushed for an X-ray then; it haunts me, knowing it might’ve spared him so much pain.
By that evening, Goose’s condition had worsened. He wouldn’t drink water, he couldn’t get comfortable, and then he started to cry, something he never does unless he’s truly in pain. When he began spitting up stomach acid, we rushed to the emergency vet. They quickly X-rayed him and found the cause: a corn cob obstruction. Dangerous, and completely stuck. He was admitted overnight and prepped for surgery the next morning.
We were terrified. The vets walked us through the best and worst-case scenarios, all of which were serious and expensive. Thankfully, when they operated, the damage wasn’t as extensive as it could’ve been, no perforations, no need to remove part of his intestine, but the surgery was still complex and urgent. He had to be transferred to another emergency facility for round-the-clock monitoring after surgery.
The initial ER visit, surgery, and overnight care totaled $8,850. I’m currently a full-time graduate student, only working part-time, and my partner and I already live carefully to manage bills. This unexpected medical crisis has left us financially overwhelmed, but there was never a question: we would do whatever it took to save Goose.
Goose is not just a pet. He’s family. He’s gentle, affectionate, and endlessly loyal, the most precious part of my day and my heart. Watching him suffer was one of the most heartbreaking experiences of my life. He’s now recovering well, but we’re struggling to cover the cost of his care.
If you’re able to give anything at all, even a few dollars or just sharing this campaign, it would mean the world to us. Every little bit helps, truly.
Thank you for reading and for caring about Goose.
With love,
Nat
