Help Goose Get Home (Updated!)

Donation protected
❗️UPDATE❗️5:19 PM June 4, 2024❗️

I have amazing news!!!! Thanks to the beautiful kindness of you all in the form of $1000 in donations, and thanks to others who have stepped in during this time of need, I have secured the current remaining balance of $4382.07 in the form of a loan, and I am able to bring Goose home today!!!!! I never would have been able to do this without you all, who gave me an initial $1000; it allowed me to put myself in a position where I could make the arrangements I needed to get him home safe, healthy, and on time. I wasn’t sure I would be able to do this, but thanks solely to the kindness of those in my life, including you, I have achieved our goal of getting Goose HOME. The $1000 I received in GoFundMe donations up until 5:09PM tonight has been paid directly to Cornell University Companion Animal Hospital via debit card. Any further donations given after this update (5:25PM June 4, 2024) will go directly toward paying the remaining loan balance of $4382.07. Please reach out with any questions. Thank you again for your kindness; it will never be forgotten.

Love,
Caitlin and Goose

❕ORIGINAL POST❕June 3, 2024❕

Goose is currently 12 days in to a stay with Cornell Animal Hospital Intensive Care.

On May 23 Goose came down with an acute case of pancreatitis which caused his liver, kidneys, lungs, and other systems to begin to fail.

Given that Goose is an otherwise extremely healthy 12-year-old miniature pinscher, and he continued to show slight improvements throughout his hospital stay, I thought it selfish and inhumane to consider euthanasia yet with an otherwise healthy dog.

Located in a healthcare desert, Goose would have died had we not rushed him to Cornell Animal Hospital, the only facility capable of treating his acute conditions, 1 hour and 45 minutes from home.

After preparing for bad news at any moment, preparing for the worst but hoping for the best, making rainbow bridge arrangements just in case, and working very closely to make many treatment and quality-of-life decisions with the AMAZING staff at CUHA, I’m happy to announce Goose is finally healthy enough for discharge to come home. But his balance due is lofty ($5,382.07), and it’s needed by June 4 to discharge him from the hospital.

If you can find it in your heart to donate to Goose’s cause, he would be forever grateful for your gift, which will allow him to come home safe, happy, and healthy.

Goose thanks you for your time and consideration, as do I; it’s important to me to do the best I can by him.

Why Is Goose So Important To Me?

Thirteen years ago, my first dog, Pete, passed away at 2 1/2 years old under anesthesia during a common dental procedure. Medical negligence was at play. Additionally, the retrieval and burial of his body were sullied by the veterinarian’s total disregard for the sanctity of both his life and his death. Goose is my “second chance pup,” a dog who has given me the gift of another go at being the absolute best pet mom I can be. During Goose’s hospital stay, it was imperative that I honored both Pete and Goose not only by making the best decisions and judgements I possibly could, but also by giving it everything I had in an effort to continue Goose’s life healthily if he was willing and able to do so. Preparing for Goose’s potential passing by lining up at-home euthanasia plans and burial arrangements has helped me with the grief I feel about not being able to protect and honor Pete the way he deserved; this time spent preparing for the worst and hoping for the best has allowed me to put an end to some of the pain I’ve felt for over a decade after Pete’s passing. Some would say the effort, time, and money I put into getting Goose healthy because he COULD get healthy was too much. But in my mind and in my heart, I’ll never regret the care and consideration I gave Goose in an effort to honor my commitment to both him and Pete, to do the absolute best by them that I could. They deserve nothing less in return for the unconditional and ever steadfast love they have given me.

Sincerely,
Caitlin
